Chieftains of Clans on the Coast Festival
2010

Greg MacLennan, our Chieftain of the Day, is a 2nd generation Australian, who became aware of his strong Scottish lineage in the early 1970’s.
The noble highland Clan of MacLennan had been without a Chief for some 330 years following the slaying of Ruairidh MacIain Domhnull Bhain MacLennan at the Battle of Auldearn in May, 1645. Greg is the Hereditary Chieftain and Head of the First Family of MacLennan and for ten years, while living closer to Sydney, was a Vice President of the Scottish Australian Heritage Council and a regular participant at many events in the Scottish calendar. For fifteen years he was a Patron of the Canberra City Pipes and Drums.
Greg and his wife Annelle (a Gordon by birth!) now own and operate a 16-room motel on the New England Highway at Murrurundi, in the Upper Hunter Valley. Greg is an active member of Murrurundi Lions Club and the district delegate on the board of Upper Hunter Country Tourism.
